Trained in both American and French anthropology, I am dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of Native American cultures, and Northern Paiute culture, language, and ethnohistory (culturally grounded history) in particular. These multiple disciplinary perspectives allow tailoring projects to the needs of Indigenous communities, and making the work and primary result integral to the cultural world from which they emanate. I collaborate with the Fort McDermitt Paiute-Shoshone community and help develop Paiute language materials that serve the language maintenance and revitalization goals of the community. Further, in order to be faithful to cultural particularism, I adopt a phenomenological perspective to anthropology, one that focuses on lived and embodied experiences of the world. With Raymond DeMallie, I edited Ella Deloria’s The Dakota Way of Life, and with Rani-Henrik Andersson and Logan Sutton I edited Great Plains Ethnohistory.
