Ráwa tiwiriituraa’iiwaátista .
Now I am going to tell a story .
Tiriratpaákustarit kici taturaákatkuuku’ .
What I am going to say but I heard it from them .
Kaakaatiraá’it hiru aátpari hiru rii’ahuksuriíwaawi   kici
I do not know then if I were living then where our people live , but
riituraákatkuuku’ iriiraá’iiwaata .
I heard them as they told it .
Ráwa wiriituraa’iiwaátista .
Now I am going to tell the story .

Piíta si’ahirahuúkata rahúrahki   tihwakí’aahu’ .
Men they (du) were taken across (by) animals , they say .
Siwituksukaata’íwari’ .
They (du) were going along the bank .
Piíta ásku isi’aháwari hi ríkucki si’ahaapaawáriku’
Man one as they (du) were going and birds he was shooting them
ríkucki .

Hiru si’ahukaatawí’at .
Then they (du) went along the bank .
Ruusiwítiwa   Hiru si’aháwa .
There they (du) went ; Then they (du) went .
Rikuhii’ut si’ahaáwara   hi rahiírit aarátkii’a .
It was far as they (du) went , and finally it became night .

Hiru ahiwáku’ ásku     Hirucihuúwa =.  
Then he said one : ' Let's go now ! "

Witirátkii’a .
It was night .
Hiru si’aháwa   hi si’aháwa   hi
Then they (du) went on , and they (du) went on , and
si’ahaaspaátasit   hi si’ahaawícpa’ .
they (du) started out , and they (du) came to a place .

Hiru ahiwáku’ ásku     Ciksuhuuwiíruutit caskí’it hi
Then he said one : ' Let's sit down now a little and
cikuwiikiwattit   hiru icirikaa’iíspa’ .
let's rest ; then we'll go home .

Hiru si’ahiwiiruútit .
Then they (du) sat down .

Hiru ahiwáku’ ásku     Ráwa ciru wititaatucísta hi
Then he said one : ' Now yet I am going to lie down and
rikukastahkaciiharaaka .
I will stretch out my legs .

Hiru hiraáku ruu’ahiwáku’     Hawá rikuriituutárista .
Then the other he said : ' Also that is what I am going to do .

Hiru siwiti’ahiwaáwa’uc .
Then they (du) lay down .

Hi ahawaáka’u’     Iwisiwitiraatawaáwa’uci     hi ahawáku’  
And he said : ' As he and I lay down , " and he said ,
  Kuuhikutkásitit .
' I must have gone to sleep .
Hawá híraasa kuúhatkasitit .
Also the other he must have gone to sleep .
Sikuuhikutkásitit .
He and I must have gone to sleep .
  Hi ahawáku’     Isikaratiraá’iita hiru iwirikukirikaaha    
" And he said : ' As we don't know then as I woke up , "
tiwákaahu’     hi wiruuriitiikaáku hi rahiíwatpaaha
he was saying , ' and there I was sitting inside and as I looked around
  aáka   iruutasawaahat rahúrahki .
, oh , there they sat all around animals .
  Hi riwaáka’u’     Caskí’it kutikuucikstiruhat raticka’a
" And he said : ' A little I felt afraid my wondering
kíki tasuúta =.   Aáka   hi istú ruuriitiwicka     Aá
what is happening ? " Oh , and again then I thought : ` Ah
  ráwa kukariiruuci .
, now there is nothing to do .
Kúkaakuuta .
There is nothing to be done .

  Hi rihiíwatpa .
' And I looked around .
Tatuútattawiriiku’ iruutasuwaahat iriruurakuura’u rahúrahki
I was looking about at them those sitting around all kinds animals
kítuu’u’ .

Ruu raaruutasuwaahat riruurakuu ríkucki
There they all just sat about their being different ones birds
riruurakuci’a   ríkucki rarihuúriki .
their being all kinds , birds big ones .

A tiruurariírahaara rirahíwatuuru tiruuhariírahaaru
And here on this side where the entrance was on this side
takaaraahisu’ ahuútasitit   wi’ahuraatrícusu rakuraakatárihuuru .
all at once it happened : they were snorting it being a loud way .
Witiraaricúsaahu’ tirawíhat   uúkatat witiwíhat .
They were snorting these , (on) the north they were sitting .
Wituutasúhat .
A line (of them) extended .

Hiru ahí’at .
Then he went .
Kuuhiwáki’ tirawíhat iraraaricúsaahu   caskí’it witiíraakii hi
They said these as they were snorting , a little it was a while and
ahaá’ piíta   hi ahaawíca’ .
he came a man , and he came to him .
Hi ahiwáku’     Ráwa   tíki   tatiíra’ rataakuhaaríka’
And he said : ' Now , son , I have come for me to tell you
tirawíhat witihwáki’     Rikurakuúta .
these they have said , ` Let it be thus .
  Iraraáricusaahu tirasuraákatkuku tihwícka’     Pís
' Those who are snorting as you are hearing them they feel : ` Hurry
  sicikskariíhac =.     Kikí sirastuúku =.     Raaru’iíku .
, let us eat him ! ' ` What are you doing ? ' ` Let him just sit .
    Pís   sicikskariíhac =.  
' ` Hurry , let us eat him ! '

Tirawíhat hi ríhwaki’     Kaakí’ rikurakuúta .
These and they said : ` It cannot be done .
Ruuracuks Kaakí’ rikuurakuúta .
It cannot be done .
Ruuracuks tirastapaki’aahu .
these of you talking .

I riiwaakaáhu’     Ráwa tiwiriisatkuúku
And he was saying : ' Now this that you have heard
wituraawi’uúsiiku’ .
the noise is dying down .
Wikaakuúta iriricíksa .
It is not like it was .
  Ahawáku’     Tirawíhat wirikutí’it kítuks .
" He said : ' These they are beavers .
Aáka   hiru raaruutasúhat wirikurí’it pakstítkukic .
Oh , there those seated along they are the ones mountain lions .
Hiru raaruutasúhat i wirihwaki’    
There they are just sitting around and they have said : `
Kaakí’ rikurakuúta .
It cannot be done .
    I tirawíhat kítuks ahiwakí’aahu’     Tíruu’uhu
' " And these beavers they were saying : ' Its being the way
kuhisiracihkutpaawattit kíriku’   a ruuruciraa’u hiru siriwa
we should talk to him perhaps ; and it'll be the way then they'll go
a sirikaá’iispa .
and they'll go home .
  I wirihwáki’     Irikuúsuci’ .
" And they said : ' It will be thus .
  Rikuwitiwákaahu’ piíta .
" That is what he said the man .

Ráwa hiru ahuúcaa’ .
Now then he stood up .
Hiru ahiwáku’     Tiwiratuuhaárika’ wirikutii’ iraasatkuuku
Then he said : ' This that I tell you it'll be thus as you have heard
rihwakiíhu kítaku tirahatawaáwari .
they're saying all of them we in the water .
  Witiwáku’     Rikutát .
" He said : ' I am the one .
Irikuriít .
I am the one .
Kítuu’u’ tiruutasuwaáhat kítuu’u’ rikutát taruucúhus .
All these seated along here all I am the one errand man .
Kícku tatuuhaattárau iriirahaáku taruucuhus .
Some a number of us what we are errand men .
I tiwirituuhaárika’a kuwitiwáku’ .
And this which I have told you he said it .

Now I am going to go .

Hiru ahiwáku’     Ráwa wikaakiiraakii hi itaraakaakawá’ac .
Then he said : ' Now it won't be long and we'll eat .
Tihwakí’aahu’     Awít tuksuhuuraakaákawa’ac   híru
They are saying : ` First let us eat now , then
si’iciíciwaawattiikusitit =.   Hi rikuriraákita irarattaariíhac istú
we'll begin to talk to them ! ' And for that reason when we finish again
ruusiriiririikáta’at ístu’ .
then they'll take them up again .
  Witiwáku’     Rikutuútasta .
" He said : ' It is going to be thus .

Ráwa hiru ahí’at .
Now then he went .
Witiwákaahu’   hiru rií’at .
He was saying , then he went .
Caskí’it witiíraakií hi sirikuútarastara hi raa’ a
A little it was a while and they brought us food and he came and
rikuutarastucpaáwa .
he put our food down .

Hiru ahiwáku’     Ráwa sisuksaákawa’ac =. Witataraakaákawaacu’ .
Then he said : ' Now you (du) eat ! We are all eating .

Ráwa hiru siriitihaákawa’ac .
Now then he and I ate .
Ráwa hiru siriitúci’a .
Now then he and I did it .
A riihariihac .
And I ate it up .
Kítuu’u’ ritpaáwaa .
Everything I ate .

Híru raá’ piíta .
Then he came a man .
Rakaraáki ruuriírarat .
Dishes he took them .
Tiwákaahu’     Tahiiwátaari’ .
He said : ' I'm looking .
Iraáhku háwa witiraáriihac .
That one also he is finished .

Hiru rií’at caskí’it tíraakii   hiru raá’ piíta .
Then he went a little it was a while , then he came the man .
Ahawáku’     Ráwa   tíki   witatiíra’ kurataakuhaárika’ .
He said : ' Now , son , I have come to tell you something .
 
"

Hiru riiwiítit .
Then he sat down .
Híru rikúciwaawattikusitit kítuu’u’ irawaawaákahu    
then he started talking to me all as he was telling me everything : '
Hawiruúta wi’isuútaara tirariíhattawicpaahu
One does this when you do it as they come upon (ie attack) one
cáhiks   hi tiharicuutarísta wi’isícka’a
persons (ie the enemy) ; and this is what you must do if you wish

" And he finished .

Ahawáku’     Tíki   tiwiratuuhaárika’a iwirikutat .
He said : ' Son , this that I have told you I am the one .
Tiraásatkuuku rihwákiihu kítuks wirikutát .
This you have heard their saying beavers that is who I am .
  Híru ahuucaá’ piíta .
" Then he arose the man .
' Hawá ásku ahaa’ísta .
  Also one he is going to come .
Ásku tutpaáwattiksta .
One he is going to talk to you .

Hawá ruu’ahaá’ ásku .
Also then he came one .
Hawá riíku .
Also (ie another) he was .
Ahuúta   wititpaáwattit .
He did it : he talked to him .

  Irurikuciraa’iitawa rirakuúta .
' Then he told me what to do .
Ráwa kícku kuhuuháru siriikuuhaárikaawa tiruutasúhat
Now a few others they told me things these sitting around
iriruuratiíku tíkskurit hiruutasúhat cás   rarihuúriki a
right where I was sitting near those others turtles , big ones and

Híru ahiwáku’     Ráwa   tíki   wiruutucíraa’u’
Then he said : ' Now , son , that'll be all
tiwisiratutpaáwattit .
what we have told you .
Ráwa hiru wisiriskaa’iispá’uhta .
Now then you (du) are going to go home .
Ráwa isirarikatá’uhta .
Now they are going to take you (du) up .
Hiru sirarikatá’uhta hiru rirasúksku hi istú
Then they are going to take you (du) up there where you sat and again
siraákus .
he'll place you (du) .
  Ráwa rikuwitiwáku’ .
" Now that is what he said .

Hiru si’ahírat .
There he took them (du) .
Hi ahaá’ piíta .
And he came a man .
Caskí’it kutihuúrakii’ac .
A little he was tall .
Hi ahaawíca’   hi ahawáku’     Ráwa   tíki  
And he came there , and he said : ' Now , son ,
witatarikatá’uhta .
I am going to take you up .
Siksuucaa’ =. Tatatáhpista   hiru icihkatá’at .
Rise ! I am going to pack you on my back , then we'll go up .
Hi wiratiiruucaá’ .
And now I'll stand .

Hi ruuriitúci’a     A riituutuuríkut .
And I did it : ' And I held him .
A riikutáhpa .
And he packed me .
Hiru siriiticpaátasit .
Then we started out .
Siriitawáciruutit .
We went out .
 
"

Tiwákaahu’     Irihiiwata   aáka   hiru
He was saying : ' As I looked , oh , there
rikictiíhat rirahíwatuuru .
there was the water's edge where the entrance was .
Kutihurahkata’iwaahat .
The water spread out quite a ways .
Hiru siriitikatáwa .
Then we went on up .
Iwirikurikátaata   hiru risiratúksku a riikukus .
When he took me up , there where we had sat and he sat me down .
  Ráwa títaku rikutiihi risirasúksku .
` Now here this is it where you (du) sat .
Ráwa hiru sikaasikaá’iispa .
Now then you (du) must go home .

Hiru hawá ruu ahí’at .
Then also there he went .
Hawá ásku ahirikatá’at tihíraaku .
Also one they brought him up the other one .
Hawá ahíhkus .
Also he was set down .

Hi ahawáku’     Tiwisiriitákus .
And he said : ' Now I have set you (du) here .
Hiru sikaasikaá’iispa .
Then you (du) must go home .
Ráwa wisíriipa .
Now we'll go .

Hiru iratawiraáta tisiratuútasku iritiwáku’    
Then after he went down as he and I sat there dismayed that one said : '
Kíra   kikí rasuutacíksu’ =.  
Say , what do you think ? "

Ahawáku’ tihíraaku     Ruutatuciiciksu’ kukaakutkiríkut
He said the other one : ' I am just thinking there is nothing to be done
tiwiricakurikataáta ístu’ .
since they have brought us up again .
Tiwirúraahi a tiwiricakutpaáwattit caskí’it .
This is good and their having talked to us now a little .
Iruraahi .
It was good .
Ráwa iwitikaasiraara’uúsiiku’   tiwiracakuhaárikaawa’a kaasiraara’uúsiiku’ .
Now you must be careful : what they have told us you must be careful .
Tíraciraaha rikuracuksáwahca icakuhattáwica raaruukaarisúci’aari’ .
As we live even if that will be if we should be attacked don't just do anything .
Ruu’asiraariksu irii’isicka’a rakuútaara kaasiraára’uusit awiít .

Hiru siriítiriiwaa’ .
Then we came .
Tiwákaahu’   kaaki’út iraaruurúhat .
He was saying ; it was not far that camp .
Siriitiwícpaa’ .
We arrived .
Tiráhwari’ piíta   hi sikuuhikuutiírit .
They were going about men , and they saw us .
Híru aharaára’ .
There they came .
Sitikusíckawi’a’ .
They came towards us .

Ahawakiíhu’     Ráwa tiwisiriísiwa’ .
They were saying : ' Now you have come .
Wisikutatáraspi’ .
We have been looking for you .
Tiraáhiisa wisikutatáraspi’ .
This morning we have been looking for you .
Kusikariiriitaahúraasu’ i riihápicka’ kusitiihicírasat aku
We did not find you (du) and we thought they must have taken you or
kíriku’ kusitiihíhkuutit .
perhaps they must have killed you .
Tiwisiriisíhwaa’ .
Now you have come .

Aáka   tisi’ahawáku’     Tiwisiriitihwaa’ .
Oh , they (du) said this : ' Here we have come .
Ihaátaku sitatukspari’ .
Over yonder we went about .
Itisirisihwaa iraáku iruuru .
Now you have come that one he went out .

Ahí’at iriirákaawi .
He went where his lodge was .
Hiraaku hawa ruu’ahi’at iriirákaawi .
The other one also then he went where his camp was .
Ráwa iwisiritiirit ráwa iriiratsikstiihu’
Now when they saw them (du) now they were thankful

Ruu’ahiraarikitawiitit   hiru ahiraarit .
Then they mounted , then they went .
Wiwitiraarat caskí witii’ut aharaarit .
As they went a few it was far they went .
Wiruu’ahuciisit cárarat wituutasu’at hi aharit
As they went on the enemy they were lined up and they went
haráhkusickawí’at .
they went towards them .

Hiru ahiraarat tisiraaku hi si’ahátawi .
Then they went on these (du) and they (du) went ahead .
Tihiraariki raaruuwitaciikahuukut ruuri’ahuutasuhat
This other one he got in the middle right there where the line was
ruuuusi’ahutiikawa   ruuuusi’ahutiikawa .
as they went on in the middle , as they went on in the middle .
Siwitittahwaawariku’ .
They were shooting at him .
Siwititiráttara hi si’ahatahwaawariku’ ráhiira’
They had bows and they were shooting at them at times
raahkuticakúska hi ahiiiitari’   ahiirapaku’ .

Ruu’ahiirapaku’ witiwakí’aahu’ .
They were fighting they were saying .
Ruu’ikarikat witiraaraspaatasit cárarat .
There in the middle they started back the enemy .
Wisitaruutattarikatawi’at hi ikarikat ri’áharaarata   hi
We pushed them backwards and in the middle they were going , and
tisiráwara isi’aháwa ihiraariki hi aha’at hi wikuuhirara
these (du) as they went that other one and he went and they had them
tíraaku’ cárarat .

Hi kuwihtakakuusitit .
And they began shooting (with guns) .
Tíraata a sikuuhiwaruucit kítuu’u’ a kítuu’u’ rikukiisiri’

It was far a little and they said : ' Now they are gone there .

Hiru ahuciraarapitaahat   hiru aharaara’   hiru ahaarawica’
Then they turned back , then they came , then they arrived
ri’ahaasa piíta .
where he was lying the man .
Pítku siwitiiku .
Two they (du) were caring for him .
Si’ahuutaciksta hi si’ahaarawica’ .
They (du) looked after him and they arrived .

Ráwa ahiwáku’     Tiriisa .
Now he said : ' Here he lies .
Raariksisu’ turaariruci’ .
Truly he is in bad condition .
Kaaki‘ rakuuta .
He cannot go .
 
"

Hiru si’ahitakawaahat pítku .
Then they spread blankets two .

Hiru ahiwáku’     Ráwa hiru sicikstat hi
Then he said : ' Now then let's take him and
si’icitawaahut .
we'll have him doctored .
 
"

Hiru si’ahirika’uc .
Then they lay him in it .
Pítaksu’ isi’ahihka’uc .
A shawl they lay him in it .
Hiru siwitiiritsira .
Then they were going to take him .
Hiru ahiraaraspaatasit   hiru ahíwu’   hiru si’ahiriirat .
Then they started , then they went , then they took him on .
Ráwa kici iruutasawaahat hawa ruu’ahiraaraspaatasit .
Now but those around him again they started with him .
Hiru ahiraarat .
Then they went on .
Íhtat witiraarawirat kícku wituháru’ .
Further they were following a few they numbered .
Aharaarawirat .
They followed on .
Witíhaaciksta .
They were watching him .
Ahiwakiihu’     Cíkstit sikaasirat .
They were saying : ' Carefully carry him .

Ruusi’ahiira hiii caskí witiíraakii hiru ahiwáku’ ariísit
Then they took him on and a little it was a while then he said himself
    Ráwa tuksuhuurataarirat hi isuksuhuurapiitit .
: ' Now let's take a rest and sit down .
 
"

Hiru ahiici’a   a si’ahiiruc .
Then they did it : and they lay him down .
Hiru ahiraarirat .
Then they sat down .

Caskí witiíraakii aháwihat .
A little it was a while when they sat there .
Hiru ahiwaaku     Ráwa istú witataraakaspaatasiksta .
Then he said (the wounded) : ' Now again we are going to start .
  Hiru ahiwáku’   ráwa hi si’ahiraaraspaatasit   hiru
" Then he said -- now and they started with him -- then
ahiwáku’     Wikaakii’ut iriirakiicuhat .
he said : ' It is not far where the river is .
Sikaskuuwiha’i .
You must throw me in the water .
 
"

I tirawaariki ruu’ahiriiwaki’     A   kaáki’ rikurakuuta .
And these they were saying : ' Ah , that cannot be done .
Raaríksisu’ tastaakatarihu’ tirasuuta .
Really you are wounded as you are .
Kaaki’ rikuurakuuta .
That cannot be done .
 
"

Hiru ahiwáku’     Kaakí’ .
Then he said : ' No .
Raaruukaakatiwákaahu’ .
I am not just saying this .
Sikaskuuwiha’i .
Throw me in the water .
Hiru si’iskuúwiha’i .
There throw me in .
 
"

Hi tisíriraaha     Hiru isirapu’ .
And these who had him , ' Then you'll go on .
Kaasirapu’ .
You will go on .
 
"

Siwitirat hi ahawákaahu’     Sikuksawiha’i .
They took him and he was saying : ` Throw me in the water .
 
'

Itisiriraaha hi karahiriiwicka’ .
Those who had him and they did not want it .
Aharaarawiiraata ahiwaki’aahu’     Aáka sikariisuci’a .
Those who followed him they said : ' Oh we can't do it .
Tirawaakahu kaakí’ rikurakuuta .
What he is saying it cannot be done .
Aaka   tiraakatarihu’ raaríksisu’ tiruuta .
Oh , he's very bad truly as he is .
Kira hí si’icíriwicat .
Let us get there with him .
Hiru si’icirahuuru’ .
Then they'll doctor him .
Hi wískucu’ .
And Hurry .

Hi cáhiks ahawákaahu’     Kaakí’ .
And the person he was saying : ' No .
Si’iskuksawiha’i =.  
Throw me in the water ! "

Hiru ahiwáku’     Ráwa witasuuhata’a .
Then he said : ' Now you have caused it .

You have caused it .
Tikuhurahacista .
I am going to die .
Tikuhurahacista .
I am going to die .
Ikariirasiirapicka’ iratukspaakahu .
You did not want it what I was saying .
Ikariirasiirapicka’ .
You did not want it .
I ariísit wisiriskukuwaru .
And yourselves you have wounded me .
  Rikuwitiwáku’ .
" That is what he said .

Ruu’ahiwu’ .
Then they went on .
Hiru si’ahiriwicat irii’ahákaawi .
Then they arrived with him where his lodge was .
Si’ahirahuukat .
They took him in .
Iwisirirahuukata   hici ahirí’uc i ahaasa caskí
When they took him in , and they lay him down and as he laid a little
witiíraakii .
it was a while .
Ahaasa takaaraahisu’ ahuucisitit   ahuurawi’uusit .
As he laid there all at once it happened : he died .
Rikutihwakí’aahu’ .
That is what they were saying .
Ahuurawi’uusit .
He died .

Istú wirihwakí’aahu’     Íhtat ariísit witawuuhata’a .
Again they were saying : ' Some yourselves you have done it .
Tiwisirasitiwarika raaruukariiwákaahu’ irawaákahu    
Your causing his death he was not just saying what he was saying : `
Siikuksawiha’i =.   Hiru suciraaka a si’iscawiha’i .
Throw me in ! ' Then you should have done it and throw him in .
